Compostable Bowls: Better Than Plastic.

I like it that there’s at least two fast food salad spots in my part of town that have the compostable salad bowls- I definitely recommend going with that over crappy plastic.

I guess the next question is what’s holding them back from ditching the plastic top, too? I know it’s cheaper than the paper, but that would be a heck of a statement and much smarter for them.

However, I can’t say that I trust these places to actually compost the bowls when it’s front-of-house disposal… I rip up my bowl and compost it in the backyard with everything else.

Since paper can be tough, make sure you rip it up into pieces to speed up the decomposition a bit.

I’ll take 30 seconds to do that instead of put a plastic bowl and/or lid in the recycling can where it most likely won’t get recycled.

For Best Results, Keep Your Piles Large!

I’m surprised that my trash can composter is still working this far into the winter season.

I got lucky- we had a few straight days of rain here and temperatures hit 50 degrees

The key to composting through winter is to keep your pile as large as possible with a thick leaf layer on top of each food scrap deposit.
