Trash can compost bins are great if you don't have the space for a pair of full-size compost bins but still want to make a big difference in how much waste hits the curb. It takes longer to make finished compost due to their size, although that doesn't make them any less useful. I didn't turn the compost at all (which may have helped); but I did add red wiggler worms which will help break down your material much quicker. Here's my top tips to having a healthy trash can composter: 1) Size matters! How to Compost in Small Spaces Using a Trash Can

I decided to create a simple trash can composter system to see how effective it is. For just $20 and 15 minutes to drill the holes, I have a composting system that is equal in capacity to a pricey compost tumbler. As long as you drill enough holes and pay attention to moisture levels, this composting method should work for people that only have a small yard, alleyway or perhaps a balcony to work with. I'll have more updates on this in the coming months...let me predict the future: it works!
