Now that it's summer, I guess it's time to revisit this cringe-worthy classic of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKYaalD9HGE To minimize bugs in the summer, try emptying your food scrap collector twice a week instead of once, and let it soak in some hot water and soap after it's emptied. Paired with the fruit fly trap, it's easy to keep your kitchen pests to a minimum.

Compost crocks with charcoal filters aren't worth your time. The Yukchuk is pretty decent, but the Sure-Close has a wider mouth to dump food scraps into and is easier to clean. What other decent containers are there? This threaded bucket is a nice alternative- although it's airtight, it seems reasonable. If you need 4 gallons of capacity per week, maybe this will work well for you. I'd avoid getting one with a spigot on the side. While we're at it, why not just get a 5 gallon bucket with a Gamma Lid?
