https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyO_cfIknVc I love watching the steam come off his pile while he turns it...funny how he thinks it's too hot- it isn't. Watching him turn the pile makes my back hurt! Interesting observation about straw and hay being difficult for his chickens to rummage through.  I'd still take those materials over wood chips, but I've seen wood chips work a few times, even in videos I just previously posted. I'm long overdue for some sawdust dumpster diving... time to make a video?  :)

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1YN-pCljnk In this video, our waste reduction specialist shows us that mixing wood chips works best for degrading animal carcasses. I'm curious if he's experimented with shredded leaves and/or sawdust instead, as they compost quicker than wood chips. Either way, I'm really happy this is being taught instead of simply hauling the carcasses off to an incinerator, which is definitely not the way to go.
