I love watching the steam come off his pile while he turns it…funny how he thinks it’s too hot- it isn’t.
Watching him turn the pile makes my back hurt!
Interesting observation about straw and hay being difficult for his chickens to rummage through. I’d still take those materials over wood chips, but I’ve seen wood chips work a few times, even in videos I just previously posted.
I’m long overdue for some sawdust dumpster diving… time to make a video? 🙂
Dude’s always delivering great videos, and this is no exception!
In this video he emphasizes several key composting points that I fully agree with:
1) Tilling – 0:30
2) Growing in Rows – 1:52
3) Synthetic Fertilizer – 2:35
4) Store Bought Compost – 3:30
5) Store Bought Organic Fertilizer – 4:17
6) Rock Dust – 5:04
7) Biochar – 6:10
8) Comfrey Tea – 7:27
9) Compost Tea – 8:22
10) Turning Compost Frequently – 9:15
This is a great video to show you how to give a compost pile a boost, which really works wonders. He’s got plenty of volume, moisture, airflow and a good mix of material.
Wow! This is one steaming hot pile!
I hope his dog didn’t really eat some of the compost and barf it up in the house.
With that much space and material, he should try having one pile just sit there unturned, and another pile of equal size right next to it, getting turned every few days like he does.
