I've been using sawdust in my compost toilet and worm composting efforts for a long time now- two trips a year to the nearby wood shop. Sawdust can be a pain in the butt to manage. Following a few basic rules, it's an excellent ingredient that will help your worm composting efforts. Keeping sawdust damp is really tricky, and wearing a mask is a game changer when you're handling it. Personally I try to skip the wood shavings as much as possible (the bigger shavings tend to stick around in the compost), although they're neater to work with. Sawdust Dumpstering

About once every six months, I make a trip out to the wood shop dumpster to get sawdust for my compost toilet system. I checked with the shop in advance to see that they don't use any treated wood and asked permission to stop by and fill up on sawdust. Of course it benefits them since I'm lightening their waste load and I get free material to process my cat litter and compost toilet. Videos coming soon...
