A few weeks ago, I saw the above video and decided to make my own mock experiment after watching. I mean, adding urine to compost can’t be that shocking, can it? It makes sense in the grand scheme of things…so isn’t it just hype? Maybe it’s good for the mineral content and nitrogen levels, but does it work as an activator as I keep reading in various places? My thoughts point to no.

Do you think there was too much nitrogen in your pile. I think urine must be good for a compost pile in moderate quantities such as peeing on it once or twice a day.
I think urine is good for compost when you’re starting a new pile…during the course of the composting process, I don’t think the changes are as noticeable. I definitely agree with you that adding urine doesn’t seem to be a bad thing on a continual basis.
