I could talk sawdust with this dude all day- he hits all the key points on the head.
I’ve been using sawdust in my compost toilet and worm composting efforts for a long time now- two trips a year to the nearby wood shop.
Sawdust can be a pain in the butt to manage.
Following a few basic rules, it’s an excellent ingredient that will help your worm composting efforts.
Keeping sawdust damp is really tricky, and wearing a mask is a game changer when you’re handling it.
Personally I try to skip the wood shavings as much as possible (the bigger shavings tend to stick around in the compost), although they’re neater to work with.
Since I use sawdust for my compost toilet and my cat’s litter box (mixed with Schwheat Scoop), the finer dust goes a long way with odor control, too.
Nice video, Marty!
