I disagree regarding avoiding meat, dairy and oily foods, but it doesn't really bother me either. Just add these items into the center of the pile like everything else and add enough cover material on top... good to go. That's it! While I completely share the sentiment that I don't want rookie composters getting frustrated and quitting, I think the constant emphasis on being careful with meat and dairy is unnecessary. My crotchety two cents aside, this video does a great job explaining composting for beginners and I'm a new fan of her channel. :)
