While shredding leaves isn't required, it makes the composting process and the finished results ten times better- seriously!
I found these on the side of the road near the house... 4 bags will last me for most of the year, and I can shred them to fit into one storage bin. One grip, one year! Not bad for processing a year's worth of food scraps.

I have an electric Worx shredder, but it can't really handle wet leaves and the blades need to be replaced quickly if you accidentally add thicker materials. It doesn't look like this has a problem with that...however it's $300 and burns gas.
